How to go on your own, and what it costs
Federow: park at the Nationalpark-Information and walk or cycle the marked paths (open at night, Zone I closed) — the spring chorus and dusk heaths are free. The autumn Rederangsee crane hide is reached only by the park's ticketed Kranich-Ticket bus (no private cars) — book early. Serrahn: walk in from Zinow.
Cost: Free on paths; Kranich-Ticket bus to the Rederangsee hide in autumn (check current price).
Who runs access
- Nationalpark Müritz – Kranich-Ticket (bus to the Rederangsee hide) (park authority) — Ticketed evening bus and hide in the crane season, late Sept–Oct.
Field-recording notes
The park is car-free beyond the villages, with bike and foot access on marked paths — at night the paths stay open but Zone I is closed. The Müritz is a busy sailing lake in summer (outboards from Waren); the eastern lakes and the Serrahn forest are quiet. Cranes and eagles are nest-sensitive: 300 m rule, no approach in Mar–June. Mosquitoes in June are punishing. Autumn crane roost viewing is only via the ticketed bus — book early, and expect a group.
