How to go on your own, and what it costs
Ticket at the Starigrad gate (price list and online tickets on the park site), gates roughly 06:00–20:00 in summer and shorter in winter. For dusk and dawn either sleep at the Paklenica mountain hut (book) or record from the canyon-mouth road outside the gate. Mala Paklenica: same ticket, no climbers.
Cost: Paklenica entry ticket by season (check the park's 2026 price list); hut nights extra.
Free or no-guide alternative: The road to the Velika Paklenica gate from Starigrad ends below the canyon mouth: eagle owl hoots echo down to it at dusk, free and outside the ticket zone.
Field-recording notes
Ticket gate hours restrict entry (roughly 06:00–20:00 in summer, shorter in winter) — for dusk owl work, stay overnight at the Paklenica mountain hut or record from the canyon mouth road. Bora is violent here (the Velebit is where it is strongest in Croatia): only calm, sirocco or windless nights are usable. Eagle owls are protected and nesting on ledges; no playback, no torches on cliffs. The coastal Magistrala road at Starigrad is audible in the lower canyon.
