How to go on your own, and what it costs
Monte Arcosu WWF oasis: open at weekends 09:00–16:00 with an entry ticket; the road from Uta to the oasis gate is public. Night access only by arrangement with the WWF staff. Monte Linas / Costa Verde: forestry tracks (Forestas) are free and open — park at the Perd'e Pibera or Sa Spendula trailheads near Gonnosfanadiga and Villacidro and walk up before dusk.
Cost: Monte Arcosu entry ticket (check current prices, WWF Italia); Monte Linas free.
Free or no-guide alternative: Monte Linas forestry tracks are free and open at night: roaring stags along the tracks above Gonnosfanadiga and Villacidro in September, with scops owls and nightjars.
Field-recording notes
Hot, dry scrub — insect noise lingers well into the evening; late-night sessions are cleaner. Monte Arcosu closes to the public at night, so arrange access with the WWF oasis staff. Hunting season starts in Sept on the island — expect shots outside the oasis.
